The first recorded mention of Canapost dates back to 901 under the name Caneposto. One of the highlights is the Romanesque Church of Sant Esteve, dedicated to Saint Stephen (Sant Esteve) and Saint Cleto (San Anacleto), the third Pope of the Christian Church. According to legend, Cleto was appointed by the Apostle Peter himself, giving the church a unique historical significance.
Visitors can also explore numerous archaeological remains that document continuous settlement since Roman times. Among the most interesting are traces of an ancient road to Empúries, which connected the Roman city with Girona, as well as additional Roman ruins south of the church and in nearby farmhouses.
